Smoked Old Fashioned Tequila – Reinvented Intensity
A powerful and elegant Mexican version of the Old Fashioned cocktail
The Smoked Tequila Old Fashioned is a modern reinterpretation of the famous Old Fashioned. Here, mezcal or aged tequila (añejo) replaces bourbon to offer woody, smoky, and earthy notes. It's all enhanced with a touch of agave syrup and aromatic bitters. An intense, refined, and decidedly masculine cocktail.

Ingredients for Smoked Tequila Old Fashioned
- 5 cl añejo tequila or mezcal (for the smoky effect)
- 1 cl agave syrup (or liquid brown sugar)
- 2 dashes of angostura bitters
- Ice cubes
- Garnish: flamed orange zest, maraschino cherry (optional)
How to Make Smoked Tequila Old Fashioned
- In an old fashioned glass, pour the agave syrup and bitters.
- Add a few ice cubes, then incorporate the añejo tequila or mezcal.
- Mix slowly with a bar spoon to chill and slightly dilute.
- Press an orange zest over the glass to release essential oils, then rub it along the rim of the glass.
- Garnish with the flamed zest and, if desired, a maraschino cherry.
